    1. Seed can germinate within 2 weeks to 2 years
    2. Atropurpureum, which has also been called Blood Leaf, means red Acer palmatum
    3. More vivid colors than the ‘bloodgood’ variety and may have a light green undertone
    4. The tree colors may change throughout the season from a deep purple to even a light green in fall then on to a red for fall
    5. The tree gives a Japanese impression with layering of branches
    6. In the Netherlands 'Atropurpureum' get's the highest award for garden beauty 
    7. There are over 1000 different varieties of Japanese maple
    8. Native to Japan, Korea and China
    9. Tree shapes can be round to irregular
    10. Japanese Maple has been cultivated in Japan for centuries
    11. In moderate climates cultivation has been since the 1800s
    12. The first specimen of the tree reached England in 1820
    13. Swedish doctor-botanist Carl Peter Thunberg gave the species the name palmatum because of the palm-like shape of the leaves
    14. For centuries Japanese horticulturalists have developed cultivars from maples found in Japan and nearby Korea and China
    15. They are a popular choice for enthusiasts and have long been a subject in art
