• Ailanthus excelsa
    Indian Tree of Heaven

Smooth gray bark is accented by reddish branches that are smooth and lustrous in appearance. As the tree ages the bark becomes rough and textured making this tree an interesting bonsai specimen. Grows well in containers for deck use and the greenhouse. Leaves are said to have a nutty fragrance to them. Cup shaped flowers appear at the end of new shoots that are yellow-green to red from January in the South to July in the North. Best kept as a container specimen.
