  • Asparagus racemosus
Shatavari - Wild Asparagus -  Indian Asparagus

A perennial member of the asparagus family with tender young shoots that are cooked as a vegetable. When left to grow, these yellow shoots will turn into soft fern-like fronds and will eventually produce white flowers. Found virtually everywhere in India, the plant grows from 3 to 6’ with a preference for rocky soil. Because of the many uses of the plant and rapid deforestation, it is considered endangered in its native habitat. Grow in loose, deep soil with compost added. A useful companion plant to tomatoes, herbs and even in container growing. Note: not to be confused with garden asparagus.
Does well in zones 8-11 otherwise use as an annual or bring indoors
