Dutchman’s Pipe
A tender evergreen vine with unusual flowers and beautiful bright green heart shaped leaves that grow closely together to create a dense mass of foliage. Slender woody stems twine gracefully in tight coils around trellis or fencing to about 10 feet or so. Makes a good screen. In the summer blooms peek out from the drooping vines that resemble the “Sherlock Holmes” Dutch Pipe. These blooms are colored with a purple pattern resembling calico fabric giving it the common name of calico flower. Likes light sandy soils. Zones 8+ as an outdoor standard.
