     An evergreen tropical tree native to tropical Mexico and Central America with glossy dark green leaves about 4” long. The tree yields the common, milky-white latex used to make of chewing gum. It can be tapped every other year and was used by the Mayans for gum. It blooms white flowers followed by a brownish fruit about 2-4.”

    1. One of the most interesting and desirable of all tropical fruit trees 
    2. Also known as Sapodilla 
    3. Believed to be native to the Yucatan and possibly other nearby parts of southern Mexico 
    4. It is thought to have been cultivated since ancient times
