Roystonea regia - Royal says it all with this tree! This single stem palm has smooth rings accented by a pale gray trunk and a swollen middle or base. A tight crown of elegant plumes tops this off with arching feathers of brilliant bright green. Tiny, three petal, cup-shaped flowers bloom just below the crown anytime of the year. A terrific plant to grow anywhere! Even as a potted deck plant! A must have for any plant enthusiast!

The genus name was changed to Roystonea to honor General Roy Stone an army engineer who served in the Caribbean at the turn of the century
The Florida Royal Palm Roystonea elata is native to the cypress swamps of south Florida
Common varieties sold in nurseries is the Cuban palm first brought to Florida in the 1930's
Often used as plantings for avenue trees
Makes an excellent plant for collectors of plants for the home or greenhouse environment
The heart of the palm is used to make salad in some parts of the Caribbean
